If you are diagnosing a leak from the transfer case on a 2016 Wrangler, Rubicon model, built between November 25, 2015 and August 10, 2016 by the input gear, the task is to determine if the leak is coming from the inner diameter of the input gear and the cap plug installed into the input gear or if it is coming in between outer diameter of the input gear and the radial seal. If the input gear has transfer case lubricant at the internal splines then there is an issue sealing the cap plug against the input gear inner diameter allowing the lubricant to leak outside of the transfer case. If the leak is confirmed to come through the input gear and the cap plug proceed to change the following parts of the transfer case to repair this concern; Rubicon Gas/Diesel W/Manual Transmission - Part Number 05019020AB Part Name SEAL, Input; Part Number 3821558 Part Name SNAP RING; Part Number 05101990AB Part Name GEAR, Input Rubicon Gas/Diesel W/Automatic Transmission - Part Number 68087998AA Part Name ADAPTER, Transfer Case; Part Number 68087995AA Part Name SNAP RING (from adapter); Part Number 05019020AB Part Name SEAL, Input; Part Number 3821558 Part Name SNAP RING; Part Number 68087960AA Part Name GEAR, Input If it is confirmed that there is not leak through Input Gear and cap plug and it is confirmed that the leak is between the OD of the input gear and the radial input seal, just replace seal as normal procedure.
